Hey Pretty Birds,
Did you know that we were huge Rihanna fans? No? Well, we love her for so many reasons: for living her life, for being strong, for sharing her voice (musically) and point of view (on everything else), for her adventurous and unabashed style, for her reggae and soca whining skills, and because she is the bad girl that I was once and which Margherita still has time to become (more on that soon). We are also addicted to her Instagram feed which is too fun for words, whether we are shaking our heads or not.
We were super excited when we learned that she was the star of Balmain’s SS14 campaign. I think that Margherita would give birth in Balmain if she could, and I’ve mentally adopted Olivier Rousteing, the brand’s creative director, as my little brother. I had the pleasure of speaking with him a whole 15 minutes at Le Bar du Bristol in Paris. He is so calm, sweet, passionate about his home Bordeaux and Florence where he worked with Roberto Cavalli, and of course, extremely talented. We were so inspired by his statement related to why he chose Rihanna to star in the campaign:
“Dreams do come true… When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete. Not compromising, fresh, modern, the icon of my generation, Rihanna embodies my vision of Balmain in this new campaign. In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world.”
We are just so happy that Rousteing is one of the many people who are talking about dreaming again. We hope that the current mood that emphasizes the importance of encouraging fantasy and imagination results in a fertile flourish of concepts and artistic unions. For Rousteing it has, he goes on to explain why Rihanna became his perfect muse in the first of a series of behind the scenes video published on Balmain’s YouTube channel. Have a look at the video, he’ll charm you right off your feet and enjoy the campaign pics here if you haven’t seen them yet. Xoxo, Tamu
