It’s no secret that one of the major shades on the SS18 runways was lilac. Nearly every designer under the sun gravitated towards the violet spectrum – we here at ATPB were particularly obsessed with the Tibi and Victoria Beckham iterations. So, armed with the knowledge of this seasons color du jour, I began the search for all things lavender, with the hopes of infusing some spring in my wardrobe even as the bleak grey days of winter are still knocking at my door (can someone please tell me when this cold weather will be over?) But how do you wear this pastel hue?
I’ll admit that, at first, I was skeptical, and never having gravitated toward this pretty pigment in the past, I wasn’t sure if it would suit my complexion. But after countless online searches, of which you Pretty Birds will now reap the benefits, I discovered that this hue is one of the universally perfect shades for pretty much everyone. From darker pinky lavenders to the faintest tinge of pale lilac, we have here a true color chameleon. So today, we are rounding up four ways to inject this purple pigment into your wardrobe. Whether wearing it head to toe or just as an accessory pop, you’ll be sure to stand out come the warmer days ahead, or even now… with the right outwear.
Dresses are the ideal way to embrace any new color palette, and lucky for us, the spring season generally offers a plethora of events to show off these beautiful frocks. From Easter Day to spring weddings, you will be sure to knock your style game out of the park with any of these dresses. In particular, we love this gorgeous feminine floral number from Emilia and this dazzlingly lavish gown from Roland Mouret.
Winter’s not totally finished with us yet (word is the second nor’easter this week is making it’s way towards NYC imminently), we still need all the stylish outwear we can get. Fortunately, designers considered our cold weather plight and created some of the most stunning violet jackets for us to wear, regardless of the temps. From Acne’s lilac biker babe to Gucci’s lavender and lace combo jacket, these pieces give us all our spring vibes while still keeping up with winter realness.
If dressing in head to toe purple isn’t your speed, perhaps try dipping just a toe (or ten) into this color trend. Pairing wonderfully with a jean and sweater combo or on a warmer day with a simple white dress, these pieces are just what you need to inject a little extra interest into your spring ensemble. In particular, we are obsessing over these structural beauties from Yuul Yie.
The consummate finisher to any look, why not invest in a lilac handbag? These whimsical beauties are the ideal way into this trend. Whether pairing with a head-to-toe tonal look or just adding that little hint of spring into your closet, these bags will carry through to seasons beyond. We suggest going for classic silhouettes, like this Stella McCartney tote or M2Malletier crossbody, for a timeless staple you can wear again and again.
