One of my favorite parts about being a fashion and market editor is the constant exposure to new and innovative brands. From the inside, I get to watch these emerging designers elevate their labels from craft into an art with passion and drive.
That’s why today, Pretty Birds, I’m sharing with you a few brands that have been on my radar lately. From the perfect slippers and slides to some seriously killer metallic cowboy boots, these brands are forging a path of innovation – and doing it with some serious style. So, without further ado, here are the four brands from around the world that you need to know this year. We promise you won’t be disappointed!
Andrea created her namesake label in Venezuela in 2011, but I came across the line when she launched in NY in 2016. Sexy silhouettes mixed with a tough–girl–chic aesthetic, this collection effortlessly combines bright colors and sharp details for the perfectly balanced masculine/feminine style. I am particularly obsessed with her lucite heel boots and her two–toned ballet flats.
I came across this up-and-coming Icelandic brand while working on a project with Moda Operandi a few months ago. Launched in 2016 with bright metallic leathers, fur inserts, and quirky silhouettes, I was instantly enchanted. Investigating further, I found that designer Katrín Alda Rafnsdottir already has a who’s who of celeb followers, including Kate Bosworth and Tilda Swinton. I predict that the line is on its way to be the ultimate It Girl brand.
A line created entirely around slippers isn’t exactly a new idea, but friends and co-creators Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin are positioning their London–based label to be the must–have slides in the market. Inspired by the historical periods of Venice in the Byzantine Empire, this brand is all about rich textiles and immaculate construction. The brand name, Le Monde Beryl, references a family of gemstones, and its jewel–like colors are one of the beguiling qualities that make it a go-to for anyone’s 2018 wardrobe.
Reike Nen, a Seoul–based label founded by designer Rei Yoon Hong in 2010, is a mix of classic silhouettes with quirky details including teddy bear fleece and innovative hardwear. First introduced to the line by a friend from Korea, this label has been on my radar for the last few years. But now with stockists such as Moda Operandi, Farfetch, and Shopbop jumping on the bandwagon, we predict that this will be the year we see the cult classic reach mainstream status.
