Five Ways to Schedule Wellness Into Your Life This Holiday Season
Ok yes, this seems early, but hear me out. If you are anything like us, you know that You Time will not happen unless you plan for it to happen. Daily, Tamu schedules her runs into her calendar with the same conditions as a meeting – no cancellations, no negotiations. In that same spirit, we’ve decided to start organizing our holiday vacations now, without getting stressed out about it. How to truly relax over what most consider to be the most stressful time of the year? Here are five wellness suggestions to keep you feeling physically and mentally fit from your first holiday party straight through to New Year’s Day.
Spend a relaxing day at a spa… with your phone off
For those looking for a break from city stress, the ideal destination is Vigilius Mountain Resort in Lana, Bolzano. 1500 metres and a seven minute cable car ride above sea level gets you to the sort of silence only found in the mountains. The facilities are fully Eco-sustainable and include a 1200 m 2 spa which you can only access without a cell phone. The concept behind this wellbeing complex combines Asian natural medicine practices with essences and ingredients gathered from the mountains of Alto Adige. If you really want to treat yourself, the ultimate spa-addict destination is la Caldea, considered the most beautiful resort in the world, sitting more than 1024 m 2 and situated above the Pyrenees in the principality of Andorra. Beautiful and vast, the complex resembles a crystal cathedral with baths in the shape of champagne glasses, an outdoor swimming pool with a view of the mountains and Indo-Roman baths (I could go on). If you don’t care for isolated places, try the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Las Vegas, recipient of the prestigious Forbes Five-Star award. A sanctuary of elegant and modern wellbeing spread out over two floors; it also has a yoga studio and a private garden.
Sports for two
Vacation means more time for you; time you can spend hanging out with friends, taking a trip, or even challenging yourself to a little sport, which is probably the best option to balance out all of the eating we are already planning to do. If you are spending your holiday with your significant other, try out a new sport together. You could motivate each other and get to know each other a bit better picking up a new skill and working toward a common goal. Never been skiing? Book lessons at a ski school. Haven’t gone swimming together yet? Spend an afternoon at the pool together: whoever’s more of an expert can teach the other how to improve his or her style. Finally, treat yourselves to a couple’s massage: it is both romantic and relaxing and one of the best ways to end the day!
Testing new facial masks and choosing your favorite for 2018
Does the holiday tour de force knock the wind out of you? Then now is the perfect time to give your skin a little extra pampering. If you, too, are as passionate about cloth facial masks as we are (we have an entire collection!), try chilling out on your sofa with a regenerating, moisturizing mask. For a filling effect, choose a mask that contains hyaluronic acid. Want to try an easy DIY mask? Mix two or three spoonfuls of yogurt and one teaspoon of honey then apply all over a clean, dry face. Let it sit for 15/20 minutes. If you prefer a purifying mask, purée one apple, add a teaspoon of vinegar or fresh lemon and then massage over entire face, leaving it to sit for a few minutes. You can also use some grapes or a cucumber instead of the apple.
Making room for new products on your vanity table
Too many makeup products on your vanity table? The time has come to make some space for new products or to eliminate foundation, creams, mascara and lipsticks you’ve never worn in order to have ready access to the products that actually deserve to be there. Not sure what to do? It’s easy; if, for, example, you haven’t used a face cream in over a month, you’re unlikely to buy that product again in the near future. Give it to a friend, your mom or a person you are close to and who might need it. Sometimes it really does take very little to make others happy!
Give yourself a yoga session before going back to work
Only a few days left before the holidays are over and you have to go back to work? We know, it’s hard on everyone. After a one or two-week long breather, getting back into the swing of things isn’t all that simple. Go for a slow approach to allow you to ease back into your daily routine: get in a couple of yoga sessions and do some meditation in order to face the new year’s challenges. For some guided meditation at home, try the Headspace app, and for a few yoga sessions in the privacy of your own home, try the Cody app – both available for purchase in Apple or Android. Yoga and meditation both facilitate concentration and improve your overall wellbeing. All you have to do is try it.
