Brooke DeVard

It’s hard picking favorites, but to ensure we’re giving you the absolute latest when it comes to news and trends, we’re asking some of our faves, to share their own!

Today we’re chatting to New York-based Brooke DeVard Ozaydinli, a product marketing manager at Instagram, and also the host and creator of one of the best beauty podcasts out there, Naked Beauty. I hope you’ve got a pen or your phone ready, as you’re probably going to want to take note of a few of Brooke’s faves; she’s interviewed some of the greatest in the beauty biz.

Favorite time of day…
The very end! Towards 7:30pm when the work day is behind me, I’ve taken off my makeup and I’m cooking dinner for my husband and I to enjoy at home.

Favorite skincare products…
I’m in love with the Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum, which the founder, April Gargiulo, gifted to me after I interviewed her for my podcast. When I pair it with their Active Treatment Essence, it’s pure magic! It feels so indulgent and luxurious on the skin because it’s packed with nutrients that feed your skin, smells gorgeous from all of the natural oils and it leaves my skin so glowy. [If you follow Brooke on Instagram (@brookedevard) you’ll know she loves nothing more than creating her own oils and serums but she admits that she’s tried to recreate this one to no avail!]

Favorite podcast…
My girl Recho Omondi’s podcast The Cutting Room Floor is fantastic. She gets real with people who work in the fashion industry and there’s so much tea – but also inspiration.

Favorite podcast guest so far on Naked Beauty…
I just did an interview with the artist and educator Mandy Harris William, known on Instagram as @idealblackfemale, that I absolutely love. I’ve known her since we were young and followed her work from afar and this was the intellectual beauty conversation I had been craving! So many people have reached out to tell me it’s their favorite. [You can include me on that – I’ve listened three times already!]

Favorite beauty/self care ritual that you always make time for…
At least once a month I make my own sugar body scrub. I’ll add whichever oils I have on hand – grape seed oil, jojoba, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed oil etc, and then add whichever essential oils I’m feeling at the moment; Palo Santo, Bergamot, Neroli are some of my favorites. It only takes 10 mins and I reap the benefits of moisturised, naturally perfumed skin all month long.

Favorite piece of advice you’ve picked up over the years…
Know your worth! In business and in relationships, you have to know your worth and advocate for yourself.

Favorite gift you like to give…
I always ask what I’d like to receive, to stress-test the quality of a gift. A massage at an upscale spa is always appreciated because most people don’t splurge on themselves this way. Everyone I’ve given this to – especially couples pre-wedding –  is so grateful.

Favorite place to shop for beauty…
I’m a Sephora loyalist. I have so many Rouge points I should be ashamed! For natural beauty and my DIY concoctions I always shop from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Favorite NYC restaurant…
I love Antique Garage in TriBeCa! Incredible, authentic Turkish food in a gorgeous setting with live jazz.

Favorite place for vacation-ing…
Italy is pretty perfect; I love Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast but I’m just as happy in Rome or one of the other big cities. You can’t beat the food or the shopping. There’s an outlet outside of Florence called the Mall, which houses the most epic Prada store with the best prices you’ve ever seen.

Favorite go-to makeup when you have more than 10 minutes to spare…
When I have time to really do a full face I start with the Kevyn Aucoin Glass Glow Face and Body Gloss then follow up with either the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Foundation or the new Fenty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation. For concealer I switch between the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer and the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer as they both do a wonderful job of covering my dark circles. I’ll follow up with the Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder in Hazelnut then go in with a bronzer from Becca Cosmetics. I used to not wear bronzer but it makes such a huge difference.

For cheeks I love to layer a cream blush with a powder blush. The Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Above and Beyond is my number one cream blush; all natural with gorgeous, sustainable packaging.  Can’t forget about highlighter! The Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Highlighter + Balm is phenomenal.

I’m still perfecting my winged liner but that’s my go-to for a high impact look. I’m not loyal to any one mascara so I’ve been rotating between Chanel, Too Faced and the L’Oreal Telescopic Lash.

My podcast guests have turned me on to the power of lip liner so now I use either the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat or the Pat McGrath PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil before I go in with my gloss. My favorites range from Fenty Gloss Bomb, Bobbi Brown Nude Lip Gloss or the plain clear gloss from Glossier. For the final touch I’ll add a tiny bit of the Thrive Causmetics Brilliant Eye Brightener inside my lower lash line, for a gorgeous ‘I’m awake and glowing’ effect!
