There’s never been a better time to check in on our friends, Pretty Birds. Life in the time of COVID-19 is full of uncertainty and stress, but no matter how we’re coping, we can all agree it’s a time to be grateful for the people in our lives who show up for us. Checking in With Friends is dedicated to touching base with our fabulous friends all over the world.

 

Checking in With Friends: Ellie Delphine

Our first check-in is with Ellie Delphine of @slipintostyle, who we love running into at Fashion Week and have previously featured in Repeat It and Our Hair, Don’t Care. Her Instagram is constantly delivering amazing style, from her twist out to her always gorgeous shoes.

 

 

All The Pretty Birds: How are you? How are your loved ones?

Ellie Delphine: I’m good, hanging in there, trying to keep myself busy. My loved ones are back in Martinique, but thankfully they are safe and well.

 

ATPB: Where are you currently staying? Are you in lockdown?

ED: I’m staying in my apartment in Paris. I’ve been on lockdown, home alone for 4 weeks now.

ATPB: How is it affecting your work and personal life?

ED: Well, as a content creator workwise, a lot of events and trips have been canceled. There’s a lot of uncertainty as to how the fashion industry as a whole is going to recover from this crisis, but I’m still creating content and trying to stay creative. As for my personal life, it is becoming increasingly difficult to be away from my boyfriend, but it will make us stronger.

 

ATPB: What have you learned about yourself during this time?

ED: I’ve learned that I can be quite resourceful and creative and also a good cook! Here’s the recipe for yogurt cake, it’s very easy and quick to bake and a great afternoon snack!

 

Yogurt Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

1 vanilla yogurt 

2 or 3 cups of cane sugar 

4 cups of all-purpose flour 

1 cups of sunflower oil (or any other neutral oil)

3 eggs 

1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

1 spoon of baking powder (or a small pack) 

A pinch of cinnamon 

 

Directions: Mix it all up in a bowl and bake for 40 min at 180 C/ 355 F.

ATPB: Can you tell us about a daily ritual that has been keeping you sane?

ED: I hop on a Whatsapp video call with my family every day. 

 

ATPB: What’s something you hope to take from this experience?

ED: So far this experience has reminded me that it is beneficial for the body and soul to pause, slow down, meditate, and not be always running around. 

 

 

ATPB: What are some things you’re grateful for?

ED: I’m grateful that so far I’m healthy and so are my loved ones, I’m grateful to have a roof over my head and food on my plate daily. 

 

ATPB: Is there an album or playlist that you’ve been feeling lately?

ED: I’ve been listening to Bill Withers nonstop.  Just the Two of Us,  A Lovely Day to name a few, these are some of the best songs to lift your spirits. 

 

 

ATPB: Do you have a poem, quote, article, and/or image that you’d like to share to inspire others?

ED: A quote from a post by life coach Emma Zeck I saw on Instagram: 

“As if mother Earth is saying we can no longer carry on this way, the time is now, I am reminding you who you are. Will you remember?”
