All The Pretty Birds: How are you? How are your loved ones?

Michelle Elie-Meire: We are so blessed and well. We are taking it day by day for now.

ATPB: Where are you currently staying?

MEM: I am at home, where I live in Köln, Germany.

ATPB: Are you in lockdown/isolation? Describe your new circumstances.

MEM: I am well equipped. I was one of those panic food shoppers – “hamster shopper” as they are called in Germany – people who panic and buy everything before they run out of stock. Yes! I was one of them except I overlooked the toilet paper stocking up 🙂 Since I am home, I am so well under these tough circumstances. I really do not have much to complain about. I am in my own home, safe with my loved ones and more than this I do not need now.

ATPB: How is it affecting your work and personal life?

MEM: Actually, it has enriched my life in a funny way. I have more time with my kids and husband. We spent the last two weeks clearing up old things that we accumulated over the years and just giving the entire house a huge spring cleaning. Next, would be my computer library, the wardrobe, and the basement. We’re keeping calm and have simplified everything. Since I work from home, I must discipline myself to be more effective in finding a new way to get my products and my work done on a different level.

ATPB: What have you learned about yourself during this time?

MEM: I am always learning everyday something new. This time, I need to really get into a computer crash course and programming. I will need that now more than ever!

ATPB: Can you tell us about a daily ritual that has been keeping you sane?

MEM: I awake very early. Earlier than school run. I have this time for myself in the kitchen over several cups of coffee, reflect on my day and what I wish to achieve, then send my blessings to the world, my friends, and my family. Music plays a huge part in this! And getting dressed even if I have nowhere to go since we are under lock down. Super important to play dress up and send different signals to your brain to keep those happy hormones running and active.

ATPB: What’s something you hope to take from this experience?

MEM: Time time to slow down. To look up more.

ATPB: What are some things you’re grateful for?

MEM: Every day I wake up next to my husband and my kids. I need nothing else. Waking up and being able to stay healthy.

ATPB: Is there an album or playlist that you’ve been feeling lately?

MEM: Nothing but JAZZ – it’s all I listen to! The list is too long. Nothing depressing for sure.

ATPB: Do you have a poem, quote, article, and/or image that you’d like to share to inspire others?

MEM: “LIFE DOESN’T FRIGHTEN ME, AT ALL!” or “ DO NOT BE AFRAID OF LIFE.”
