A normal workday, a day just like any other: breakfast, a shower, a touch of makeup and off we go, ready to face new challenges. On average, women spend about 5 minutes doing their makeup: whether it is in front of the bathroom mirror or in an elevator (sometimes even in the bathroom at work), we try to cover up dark circles under our eyes, apply mascara to our lashes and brighten our smile with lipstick in just a few minutes. Despite the fact that, “slow makeup” is one of the best skincare routines we could choose and one that also helps brighten our mood, it’s not always possibile to dedicate large amounts of time to our beauty look. Often, all we’ve got is a handful of minutes salvaged from our usual routine to add a touch of color to our face.
Our goal, therefore, is that of creating a simple yet impactful beauty look, perfectly in line with our features and in record-breaking time. One of our allies in this race against the clock is the chubby stick: I use it when I want to add color to my lips but have already got one foot out the door. I keep it in my bag for retouching and even when I’m using a matte one which is a bit more difficult to manage in my opinion, I can honestly say that chubby sticks — in other words, jumbo lip pencils — offer the advantage of being absolutely practical. Also, chubby sticks resemble the pencil crayons we used to use as children: might that perhaps account for their popularity?
Not sure which of the numerous products and brands to choose? We’re glad to help out with this list of our favorite chubby sticks we’ve tested and feel are perfect for any makeup bag.
Clinique gets credit for having launched the very first chubby stick onto the market a few years ago: it sold like hotcakes and remains one of the most popular, best-selling products. In honour of the success of this product, Clinique have joined forces with the American brand Crayola, the leading brand in coloring products. As a result of this collaboration, you’ll find 10 new shades in a colorful (obviously!), limited addition package.
e.lf. is one of my favorite brands for two reasons: it was one of the first brands I tested when I started exploring the world of makeup. Also, in terms of value for money, it offers an extraordinary quality/price ratio. This lip gloss is practical and not particularly complex. It also nourishes lips thanks to ingredients like Jojoba oil and vitamin E.
This is more of an actual conditioner than a lipstick; it colors lips with an intense nuance and moisturizes for up to 12 hours. Apply the Color Balm Crayon on lips from the center and moving out towards the corners, starting with your lower lip. If you want color that is darker or brighter, apply more product by repeating this step.
It has a creamy texture, offers perfect coverage and comes in both matte and shiny versions. Its smart packaging ensures ultra simple, fast usage: exactly what we want when we’ve got very little time for makeup!
If you want an extra-matte finish product, this is the best solution of all. The Wycon Cosmetics chubby sticks feature a high pigmentation and thanks to ingredients like Rosa Mosqueta (Hiprose) oil, which is known for its moisturizing properties, they also nourish lips.
Personally, I feel Nars lip pencils are a must: I think I’ve got at least 4-5 different shades of red (which is my favorite color). The plus? These pencils are guaranteed to be long-wearing. The finish is matte and velvety while the creamy texture ensures comfort.
