ATPB Weekend in the Aeolian Islands

Two weekends ago Roki and I set out for a magnificent weekend in the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago located just south of Sicily. While Roki had already spent time there, it was my first time exploring the magical group of Islands that include Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea and Basiluzzo. Here are some images from one of the most magical places that I’ve ever laid eyes on along with some tips for traveling the islands we went to. Let us know if you make it there. How to Get to the Aeolian Islands
The islands are not the easiest to get to, that is also what makes it such an untouched heaven. There are ferries departing from several Sicilian and Calabrese cities such as Milazzo, Messina, Reggio Calabria, Palermo and even from Naples. If you can, renting a boat and travelling all the islands by boat is definitely the way to go. While each island has its own beauty and reason to stay there, the way to do it is island hopping.
What to See and eat in Lipari
What to See: Museo Archeologico. Despite the beautiful views that you see from the museum, this site is remarkable because of the remains of the multiple times it has been conquered. Also very close to Lipari is the island Vulcano, and if you can make it, it has one of the most beautiful sunsets ever seen
Where to Eat: Suba for some of the best Sicilian baked goods. Then make sure to stop at any pizzeria to get your Arancini. Yummmm.
What to See and Eat in Panarea
What to See: hiking along the coast, passing the beautiful white houses, vineyards, then finally ending up at the beach.
Where to Eat: Da Adelina for some fresh fish with spectacular views.
What to See and Eat in Stromboli
What to See: San Bartolomeo Church and obviously the black sand beaches. And if you are lucky to take a late night boat ride to see the lava spewing from the top of the volcano.
What to Eat: Bar Ingrid for not only the famous granita and brioche, but with a side of all that yumminess is one of the most breathtaking views.
