Hey Pretty Birds,
Meet Amina Muaddi, our first Pretty Bird here on the new site. I met the stunning designer behind the amazing shoe brand Oscar Tiye at a late night party at my neighbor’s house during Milan fashion week. I was immediately taken by her beauty, and was thrilled when I learned that she was the designer of the gorgeous pumps that I had spotted on Giovanna Battaglia a week earlier. I immediately put her name on the list of pretty birds that I wanted to profile here on ATPB. And I’m so psyched to be introducing her to you now. Please enjoy getting to know her better.
Meet Amina Muaddi
Name: Amina Muaddi
Occupation: Designer/co-owner of shoes and accessories brand Oscar Tiye.
Passion: Music, interior design, art, photography, books, travels, food, (certain) sports, exploring the unknown in general.
Hometown: I kind of consider Milan my hometown, but I’m half Jordanian and half Romanian, and I lived in Jordan, Romania and Brescia (Italy) while growing up.
Favorite Cities: New York, Paris, Miami.
Favorite place to shop in those cities:
NY – I lived in New York and go back quite often. There are SO many places where I love to shop and research in the city. Kirna&Zabete is one of my favorites in Soho. Then there is the Lower East Side’s amazing boutiques (I particularly love Assembly) and vintage shops like Roundabout, Resurrection, Amarcord, Edith Machinist, Narnia. Then there is the necessary midtown tour of the “queen B’s” Bergdorf and Barneys, and I also love the Upper East Side’s Fivestory. And back downtown again to the antique flea markets (Garage In Chelsea and Brooklyn Flea).
MIAMI- My favorite shops there are Alchemist (the most beautiful design and location for a shop) and The Webster (makes you feel like a kid in a candy shop), but I also adore the whole Design District where you can find anything – from the most creative discoveries to the latest fashion and the most amazing furniture.
PARIS- Collette, L’Eclaireur. I also absolutely love the cool boutiques and vintage shops in Le Marais, and also Rue Saint-Honoré.
Favorite place to dine in those cities:
NY has so many choices!
Breakfast: at Saint Ambroeus in the West Village.
Lunch: at Freemans (the artichoke dip is amazing), I feel at home at Bar Pitti, and I like having lunch meetings at Mercer Kitchen and the low key, super yummy Caracas Arepa Bar (typical venezuelan food).
Dinner: I like Extravirgin, it’s casual but cool and they have amazing fries, I enjoy the atmosphere at Omar’s and Waverly Inn, which has also an amazing design and the delicious food at Ai Fiori.
MIAMI: I love Juvia – it has an amazing view, Prime 112, Joe’s Stone Crab, Yardbird – great southern food, and Cecconi’s.
PARIS: lunch at Costes, Derriere for the wonderful design and atmosphere, La Petite Maison de Nicole, Ralph’s, crepes on the street at the Tour Eiffel (guilty pleasure).
What do you do to get your day started:
Shower, get dressed, have a latte, read the news when I am lazy. I go to the gym before all of that when I am not feeling lazy. 🙂
Favorite Breakfast: I like to have a BIG breakfast and it varies, but I like having a good smoothie and some eggs.
Food: A plate of delicious pasta of course.
Fruit: Passion fruit, lychee, raspberries.
Favorite Breakfast spot: Sant’Ambroeus and the bar at Excelsior.
What’s your beauty routine: Wash, exfoliate, hydrate. If the skin doesn’t look good, the make up won’t look good on it.
Skin: I use argan oil every night. It’s the BEST thing that can happen to your skin.
Where do you cut your hair: Aldo Coppola in Milan and Metodo Rossano Ferretti in NYC.
Nails and other personal grooming: Enhancements Nail Spa in Milan.
Where do you shop in Milan? Antonioli, 10 Corso Como, Cos, Antonia.
Describe your style: It’s always evolving and changing but it remains pretty minimal, a little retro and a little gangsta.
What are your favorite brands: My favorite designer is Nicholas Ghèsquiere. I loved his Balenciaga so I’m looking forward to see what he will do at Louis Vuitton.
I like Proenza Schouler a lot, Alexander Wang, Céline, Antonio Marras, Alaia, The Row, Ter et Bantine and great new designers like Esme Vie, Steven Tai, AltewaiSaome. I like accessorizing with Ugo Cacciatori’s amazing jewelry and Illesteva sunglasses.
Any style rules (for instance you only wear black shoes):
I don’t wear things that are either too preppy or too sexy.
What do you do before you go to bed: I read.
What will you be doing for the holidays?
I have absolutely no idea yet, I hope I’ll see my parents.
What gifts will you be giving this year?
A few pairs of shoes and candles, I love candles.
What does gift giving mean to you?
Making someone happy! It’s the best feeling!
I love giving gifts, and I also do my best to give them something that I know they would truly like.
If you could give a pair of shoes from your collection as a gift to some one, which pair would it be and to whom would you give it.
My amazing mother, nobody would wear them with bigger pride, no matter the style. She loves the Malikah but with the cold weather, boots of course!
