I’m fully immersed in an afternoon of marathon gift shopping: mom, check; auntie, done; the lob(v)ster, almost there (damn he’s so difficult!). When I receive a message in my Whatsapp group chat notifying me that the holiday cocktails my best friends have been trying to plan for three weeks, without success, is officially on tonight. What? How did they, all of a sudden, get their crazy schedules to align, and why was I not consulted about these impending plans?
I’m nose deep in packages; have three chipped nails; my constant beanie cap is hiding my uncoifed TWA; I have trunks under my eyes that would make Louis Vuitton jealous; and just last night, beyond the point of exhaustion, I fell asleep plastered to my sofa like fashionable road kill because my time of the month is imminent. Not to mention, I had four photo shoots this morning, followed by a two hour meeting and now I’m standing in the middle of Rinascente looking for an original gift for the lob(v)ster’s favourite aunt, Caterina.
A little stressed, you ask? Hell no. I got this. I wouldn’t miss celebrating the holidays with my girls for anything in the world. So I straighten my beanie and start to visually style the options in my closet. After all, it’s just an easy outfit for tonight, not THE LOOK that I’ll be wearing when I meet Oprah to discuss our dream collaboration.
A few hypothetical looks later, I decide to wear this Vivetta Face Stripe dress, with my friend Mateo’s Gold and Onyx Circle Earrings and my stunning Marco De Vincenzo embellished boots. What inspired me to wear this look was a conversation that I had with our interior decorator yesterday during our 2.5 hour walk through. While discussing converting our current closet space, I opened my shoe closet to show him the current layout. When he laid eyes on the Marco di Vincenzo’s, I’m 100% sure that I saw stars in his eyes. Now, I’ll have you know that, in addition to having superb taste, he is one of the chicest men I’ve ever met. Upon seeing the boots he swooned, “those are exceptionally beautiful, as an object to display as decor.” This was all the persuasion I needed to throw this fun look together for the evening’s holiday turn up. Lead with a fun and festive style shoe and the rest of the outfit will follow like magic.
So Pretty Birds, heading out for the night with your girl friends? Here are some outfits to make your own. Cheers to the season!
