These boots were made for walking… and they’re not ruining the planet. Championing sustainability, eco-friendly materials, and less harmful emissions is an ongoing movement in fashion. Where our clothes or accessories come from is becoming a more important consideration in the shopping process. Consumers and avid fashion enthusiasts want to know the origins of products and how their purchase will impact the environment in the long run. Due to the current global state, most of us are at home, working and browsing the internet. We’ve put together a selection of sustainable shoes you’ll love, made with care and our ecosystem in mind.
Sustainable Shoes We Love

RAFA Simple Sandal – I live in South Africa, along the coast and we’re blessed with a pretty warm climate – so I love a good heeled sandal. I often buy my shoes secondhand or through resale, wherever I can. But I have such a soft spot (and non-existent bank balance) for RAFA shoes. They’re a vegan shoe company based in Los Angeles, California – RAFA is committed to using local artisans and sustainable processes to create their shoes.
BY FAR – Take a scroll, and chances are you’ve seen this Insta-worthy brand all across your social media platforms. BY FAR is a family-owned business, founded in 2016 and they’re a hot topic – with fans like Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Kendall Jenner. I really love their, you guessed it, sandals. Choose from a selection of mules in a variety of sustainably sourced material. And, they’ve got a plethora of bags too – so you could match if you want!

I want to get back to running this year and I signed up for a race this spring to keep me motivated. I’ve been researching sneaker brands and I’m really interested in Allbirds sneakers that are self proclaimed, “the most comfortable sneakers in the world”. The entire design of the ‘tree runner’ sneaker is naturally-derived and renewable with a low carbon footprint.

Susi Studio is a lifestyle brand that includes sustainable footwear styles named after amazing and iconic women from Janis Joplin to Billie Holiday and beyond. These vegan sandals and heels are. I like a lot of their styles, such as Nina (Simone), Hey Simone (de Beauvoir), and Jane (Goodall).

The Reformation Isabelle Sandal – I have to admit, a lot of sustainable shoe brands aren’t that cute. So, often I find myself trying to buy the most eco-friendly, well-made shoes from brands I trust or searching on resale sites for old Manolo Blahniks. Which is why I was thrilled when Reformation, a sustainable fashion brand, released shoes. These ones are not just made from 100% chrome-free leather (which means there are no toxins produced when dying and making the shoes), they are also cute staples that I’d wear for a super long time.
What are some of your favorite sustainable shoe brands? We’d love to hear from you!
