Let me just start out by saying I am in no way a dieter. I believe more in feeling good. Why stress yourself from following one of those new fad diets, when it probably isn’t even right for you? How we define our diets and health lifestyle should be dictated by our own body. I know, it seems easier said than done. But, here are a few books that I think are helpful when searching out a personal nutrition regime.

5 Books to Kickstart Your Spring Nutrition Routine

Thug Kitcken: The Official Cookbook: Eat Like You Give a F*ck by Thug Kitchen

After all the cult following of their blog, Thug Kitchen has decided to put their brilliant recipes into this easy to use cookbook. With the whole vegan craze, Thug Kitchen uses a non pretentious and hilarious approach to easily stay green. Sometimes cookbooks make it seem so easy to not only obtain delicious, organic vegetables, but to also make intricate meals with them. In Thug Kitchen’s cookbook, we are showered with more than 100 recipes to make in the “real world”.

Make Your Own Rules Diet by Tara Stiles

Sometimes we just need help with all aspects or lifestyle, not just in the kitchen. Make Your Own Rules Diet, offers original ways to bring yoga, meditations and healthy eating into our hectic lives. Tara Stiles is no stranger to the spotlight, being the designer and face of Reebok’s yoga line as well as author to other well-read books. She also founded Strala Yoga (meaning to radiate light) which does not follow the conventional way of teaching yoga, but instead focuses on the physical and health benefits, leaving out the spiritual part. She stresses that when people are ready to understand what they truly need for their well-being, they can then make their own rules. And when something is no longer working for you, time to update your regimen to keep up with your ever evolving body.

In this book you will find a step by step goal setting process, yoga routines alla Strala, breathing and meditation processes, and a kick start program to see transformation results in 30 days.

10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works–A True Story by Dan Harris

With all this meditation and mindfulness craze, one can’t help to ask does this really work? Or even better, “I have no time to meditate.” Let me tell you, it is definitely difficult to shut out everything around you or happening in your life, but when you are able to do so, the benefits are miraculous. Dan Harris was one of these nonbelievers, but after having a nationally televised panic attack, he knew things had to change. He tried everything from a pastor, to a self-help guru, and brain scientists, finally realizing that the problem were these insatiable voices in his head. Through meditation, Harris was able to tame the voices. In 10% Happier, Harris takes us from the world of neuroscience to the American spiritual scene, with the hopes that his readers are able to learn how to change their own lives.

The Coconut Oil Miracle by Bruce Fife

Ever since learning about oil pulling at the Raw Juice Camp in Portugal, the coconut oil phenomenon has continued to intrigue me. I always keep a jar in my fridge as a substitute for olive oil. This book details the benefits of coconut oil and how to integrate it into your daily meals with 50 delicious recipes. Not only does coconut oil promote weight loss and improve digestion, you can also use it on your skin and hair as an at-home mask.

The Funky Fresh Juice Book  by Jason Vale

So I use this book everyday… seriously. Instead of doing serious juice fasts, I just integrate juice into my everyday life to make sure I am getting tons of vitamins and minerals. When I indulge, I will swap out a meal with one of the more rich and filling juices or smoothies. Sometimes with a plethora of fruit and vegetables at your hand, it can get hard to be creative. With over 100 recipes, there is a juice for everyone, that is satisfying to your taste buds, and that even helps you fight a nasty Spring cold. Jason has also added favorite recipes from some celebrities that have followed his program. So, be prepared to taste some of the most delicious juices to ever come out of a juicer.
