2016 Beauty Trends: A Revolutionary Year by Michela Marra

Detail: a specific fact or element that may even seem negligible. A small artistic element tattooed on the skin, an unusual pairing of colors, a light that captures people’s attention. Focussing on details can distinguish us from others and can make the difference. All you need is a graphic, a tone, an overlapping of textures to create a new beauty statement.

Moving away from the “rules” was the leitmotif in 2016: proposing unusual uses for materials to invoke minimalism or, on the contrary, bring eccentric looks to life. For example, it was the year of men’s makeup, with the unveiling of the first Coverboy Jame Charles, thanks to American brand “Covergirl” which has always chosen female brand ambassadors… until now.

2016 was the year of eye makeup: strokes of color, nude looks invaded by cascades of glitter, razor trends as far as eyeliner goes, multicolour graphics on the runway and smokey eyes in tones of red or burgundy.

Also, violent lips: from dark chic colors, to luminous reds and bicolour, lip makeup all contributed to turning lips into new palettes. Paying homage to women, warriors with  gentle souls, even the softest tones were paired or blended to create a beauty look which transmits new energy. Using color to fight rough times or, on the contrary, reducing makeup to the bare minimum and playing with light spots using strobing techniques. We predict more of the same in 2017. Stay tuned!
