Winter Style Break Down: All Over Plaids

I hold it as a self-evident truth that everyone looks good in plaid… I know, I know, bold statement, right? But, as you may have begun to realize from my many posts on this check printed perfection, I have a certain obsession with tartan that boarders on mania. So, when Tamu and I were brainstorming our new winter style series, naturally plaids were the answer.
But how do you make them feel new and exciting? Well, proving her street style star creds with the perfect all-over plaid look, Tamu may have found the most exciting way to liven up this print with the ideal cold weather ensemble. The sleek nylon trench from Wanda Nylon, expertly keeps away that slushy chill, paired with the super stylish (but still practical) Prada sneakers, this look takes these dreary cold days and kicks them straight to the curb. When I asked Tamu how she put together this look she responded “I woke up that morning, and I just felt like wearing all plaid all over my body.
I mean everywhere. Plus, I really wanted to wear my Burberry oversized tote.
I adore mix-n-match plaid and love seeing the different patterns together. Looks that combine different checks are always fun and perfect for cold winter days that call for maximum layering.”
In honor of this solution/revelation, I am breaking down every piece from this look so that you Pretty Birds can steal your favorites for yourselves.
While checked blazers reigned supreme this fall, its longer cousins were waiting in the wings to steal their thunder come January. As the temperatures drop, so does the length of our outwear, and these plaid pretties will be sure to provide style and warmth all season long. Also, pro tip, when creating your head–to–toe printed look, use your coat as the base of your color palette, since it will be the outermost piece of your look.
Oh, what can we possibly say about these plaid pants? Maybe it’s my inner millennial, but, to me, there is no other piece of clothing I find chicer than an amazing checked trouser. Their graphic lines are instantly slimming, and elongating in a high waist, so even the shortest of us can feel like Karlie Kloss.
Despite mini bags and cross bodies being all over the runways and streets the past couple years, we think Tamu is making a pretty convincing argument to go big or go home with these oversized totes. Not only are these purses versatile – we particularly love the functionality of the reversible Burberry – but are also the perfect solution for the girlboss on the go. Able to carry basically everything, you’ll surely be set from show to meeting to happy hour, and do it all in style.
Now, let me start off by saying I know that white sneakers aren’t exactly a new thing, but when you are wearing all-over patterns, you need something to ground the look, literally, and these basic beauties do just that. The ultimate footwear chameleon, you can wear them with dresses or with trousers, as Tamu has done here. You also get the added benefit of comfort, which is sometimes the only thing getting you out the door into the cruel winds of winter when hibernating for the next few months feels so right.
