The Spring Essentials You Can Wear At Any Temperature
Jessie Ajluni | Thursday February 22nd 2018
Warmer weather is finally upon us, and along with these mild days, my dressing is reenergized. For some of us, these breezy bastions of temperate temps seem years away, while others have been basking in tropical heat waves for months now and spring feels like old news. So, what to do when you’re about to hit Checkout but nothing in your cart matches the climate around you? The answer, of course, is to get creative. Today I am rounding up some of the most iconic mild weather silhouettes and sharing ways to wear these pieces no matter what the temperature. Because, Pretty Birds, we should never let mother nature get in the way of our style.
Take our Chief Lover, Tamu, for example, rocking one of spring’s most iconic and versatile pieces: the striped shirtdress. While the winter wind still lingers, try layering this airy dress as a tunic. Pair it with more substantial underlayers, like a wool pant and turtleneck, to keep you nice and toasty warm. For a little extra pizzazz, we love the idea of adding an adorable winter hat, like Tamu’s Rachel Comey beret. Conversely, if scorching days and muggy nights are more your latitude, then this dress worn by itself with chic slides and a wide brim straw hat might be just the thing to keep your ensemble feeling fresh.
Silk Matching Sets
Now, I love a matching set, particularly of the silk PJ variety. (Anything that makes me feel like I don’t have to do too much between getting out of bed and hitting the streets is an A+ in my book.) But how do you rock this bohemian style when the days feel more bitter cold than exotic destination? Well, the answer is to embrace your inner Gucci vibes and pair this sleepy silhouette with an over the top faux fur coat and a velvet platform sandal/sock combo. It might feel a little bit Grey Gardens, but granny dressing is always chic.
But what if your location is more Miami nights then Manhattan skyline? We suggest still going for a more is more look with a giant statement-earrings-and-turban combo. Finish the ensemble off with a pair of Palm Beach-inspired silk loafers and you’ll be ready to hit the shuffleboard court, or stylish soiree.
Ah, pleated skirts… perhaps one of the most versatile items in anyone’s wardrobe. Wear it with a chunky knit sweater, slouch boot, and a sleek cashmere coat and you’ve got a winning street style look that can carry you through the iciest New York avenue.
But say Paris fashion week is your destination. Keep this get-up ultra femme with a colorful silk button down and statement pump. Top the look off with a mini jewel-encrusted bag for a look to rival the Eiffel Tower itself
Transitional weather dressing at it’s finest includes these effortless overcoats. Perfect for a weekend excursion into the woods with roaring fires and winter cabins. This jacket looks fabulous paired with classic cashmere knits, straight leg denim and an ankle boot, for a city slicker meets country casual look. If battling a particular snowy day, then we suggest adding an oversized plaid scarf.
If you’re prone to cabin fever, then perhaps going out into the wild is more your thing. Channel your inner safari aesthetic and wear this coat with a basic white tee and cutoff denim shorts. Spice up your look by tying a silk scarf in your hair for a global traveller look.
