Should you go on that much-romanticized road trip, or perhaps take the beach break you were talking about all winter long? Well today, Pretty Birds, we are turning to some true experts and chatting with some the most stylish jet-setters around. Emily Diamandis, Founder and Designer of Tabula Rasa

What is your idea of the ultimate getaway?

My idea of the ultimate getaway is going somewhere completely new that I have never been before and being there for at least a week, so I can really get to know it. I love exploring and discovering a new place.

Can you share with us your go-to travel tip?

My go-to travel tip is to use i-escape to book all my hotels. I have used this website for ten years, and they have the best selection of boutique hotels in all different price ranges.

What is your idea of the ultimate getaway?

The ultimate luxury is time. My dream getaway is one where I get to escape for several weeks. Give me a good book, sunshine and a glass of rosé and I’m happy.

You can get better deals when searching for flight or train fares in your destination country. The last time I went to France, I asked my friends in Paris to book me train tickets via the local website. We saved over fifty percent on our tickets!

What is the one item you cannot live without when traveling?

A great kaftan. I have a dozen or so that I’ve picked up throughout my travels. My favorites are hand painted batik from Malaysia and Indonesia. They work great as a coverup, date night outfit, and pajamas.

What is your idea of the ultimate getaway?

I love to adventure to new places… my idea of the ultimate location is always seaside with my boy Theodore and husband Jesse… it must have amazing food, culture and if possible some history. I loved a recent trip to the Amalfi coast… it ticked all my boxes!

Oh goodness, I have so many! I try to fly at night so my toddler can sleep… a toddler on a plane during the day is not easy! I pop on a face mask when we are an hour from landing, so my skin is fresh when we arrive. I always allow plenty of time at airports so I don’t start my trip with stress… Drink lots of water and eat as healthy as you can while you are away so you feel great! I always pack my own bathrobe (The Beach People Stonewash robe in indigo to be precise) as ultimate relaxation is found inside a plush bathrobe!

What is the one item you cannot live without when traveling?

My backup phone charger!

What is your idea of the ultimate getaway?

Pre-children (I have 3 small ones) I loved traveling anywhere near or far, as long as I was exploring. I’m always drawn to the water! Anywhere tropical with good food! Nowadays, with the littles in tow, we like to keep it simpler… I’m in the process of renovating an old caravan. I’m looking forward to hitting the road with my kids and exploring more of my beautiful Australian backyard.

Loads of water while in the air. And once you have landed, sunshine is the best way for the whole family to adjust to the new time zone. I love a hydration mask for the flight too, just to lock in the moisture. I also designed a “travel” towel. Perfect for traveling. Quick-drying, and folds up to next to nothing…

What is the one item you cannot live without when traveling?

Might sound weird, but an herbal throat spray. You can get it over the counter at any health food shop. A couple of sprays every few hours on the plane and it’s the best! Stops you from breathing any sickness or germs while traveling.
